Short-Term Scientific Mission at KTH – Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm

Dr Oihana Gordobil completed a Short-Term Scientific Mission on the topic ˮStructural characterization of lignin samples from different sources and on the corresponding nanoparticles (LNPs)ˮ at the Department of Fibre and Polymer Technology, KTH – Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden).  Dr. Oihana Gordobil, through a practical training, acquired new knowledge and skills on the chemical and physical characterization of lignins and LNPs as well as learn new analytical techniques, such as DLS, SEM and TEM. Furthermore, new Insight into the surface structure of lignin nanoparticles (LNPs) thanks to the recently developed 1H NMR method which able to study the surface composition of LNPs acquiring a better understanding of the mechanism of the LNPs formation.

The understanding of the chemical features of lignin and LNPs is essential to comprehend its structure-properties relationship and performance on final application”
